The Wonderful WAhumor Giveaway for Autism Research is now in its fourth day, and approaching the $1000 mark.
This is particularly exciting news because this year’s goal is $2500. We could make it…or even break it!!
Is $25 for several hundred bucks worth of valuable resources is too much for you? Or $50 for not only that, but also the chance at $1000 worth more??

Sorry I missed updating yesterday. So much last minute contacts and negotiations, I completely forgot!
That WILL change next year, for sure.
Just like Christmas, the Wonderful Wahumor Giveaway for Autism Research is almost here. I guess you could call it “WWGAR Eve”. OK, we’ll work on that one…
And just like Christmas, it doesn’t last forever. We’ll be live for one week only for what may be the last time we’re live that long.
It’s bigger and it’s better, just like I always promise!
See you in the A.M. Be sure to set that alarm!!

It’s amazing.
As I was finishing setting up the download page, I receive an offer for another product!
I’ve even had some that were offered out of the blue, without ever even asking.
Then there’s that one product contribution that totally blew me away…
This year’s fundraiser really IS bigger and better than last year, while still providing good, useful resources and not a huge pile of cyber-junk you’d never bother to look at twice like so many others I’ve seen.
This latest will probably be the last offer I accept, mostly because I’m tired of updating that darn download page!!
Get ready, ‘cuz here it comes!
The second annual Wonderful WAHumor Giveaway for Autism Research will be here at 5 a.m. Eastern Sunday, October 5.
Set that alarm!

The Wonderful WAHumor Giveaway for Autism Research is celebrating its second year, and it owes its very existence to one person. But not who you might think…
Once upon a time…well, actually, eight years ago to be more or less exact, it happened.
My youngest son Nicholas was just three years old and recently confirmed as autistic. This came well after our first warning when he was nine months old, so knowing for sure was both a relief and a worry.
I was sitting watching TV with my oldest son Christopher, then eight. He had his own issues in life, as we were learning to deal with his ADD and specific learning disabilities. Fighting that \”lazy unmotivated\” crap was better knowing words and brain wiring were his enemies, but not much easier at the time.
Anyway, a commercial (or is that a public service announcement?) came on about the National Alliance for Autism Research, since joined with and become Autism Speaks. It was about the upcoming regional “Walk Far For NAAR” fundraising event and explained that pledges were collected beforehand by teams of peoplepersonally connected somehow to someone with autism, and all those people came together to walk as a way to show their support.
Just as it ended, he turned to me and said, “I want to do that to help Nick”.
Not “Gee, that’d be nice to do” or “Maybe we could do that”.
My eight year old son said exactly those words and filled his dear ol’ dad chock full of pride.
We…oops, I mean HE enlisted the family in the effort and together we trudged the neighborhood, often with his brother’s picture in hand, to ask for pledges.
We did it every year as an extended family, except when serious illness, incapacity or other crises afflicted our little band. Door-to-door efforts started to dwindle when many other worthy causes decided to host the same sort of events during the fall. Our pot of donations dwindled accordingly.
Christopher was feeling more discouraged and frustrated by the results of his efforts. Family members withdrew for different reasons, including that Nick was “doing OK” in their opinion while friends, neighbors and co-workers were getting “the pinch” from everywhere and everyone.
Something had to change, so we changed it. The Wonderful WAHumor Giveaway for Autism Research was born.
I contacted people that should have intimidated the dickens out of me. Harvey Segal. Jeremy Palmer. Perry Marshall of Definitive Guide To Google Adwords gave the famous DGTGA that first year, and Paul Smithson of XSitePro offered a copy of his best-selling website builder.
You can see the list as it looks right now (so far!) here:

It’s not pretty, but now you know why I’m no famous site designer.
Now that our second year is a reality, plans are in the works for continuing and improving as the third year begins now. The overwhelming response of contributors has definitely convinced me it’s worth keeping on, and I sincerely hope that donors will respond well too when we go live at 5 a.m. this Sunday, October 5.
Nicholas has now started middle school, and while he’s struggling with the adjustment, he’s coping well - better than my concerns! His “difference” isn’t stopping him and he’s well aware that even in his own community, there are others who struggle much more.
Guess that means I can’t quit either.

The second annual Wonderful WAHumor Giveaway for Autism Research is coming in less than one week starting Sunday, October 5 at 5 a.m. Eastern.
I’m happy to announce that this year once again, it will include “The Home Office Recovery Plan” by Patty Gale and Diana Ennen. This is a resource everyone working from a home office should own, because natural disasters and accidents don’t just happen to “other people.”
Also back again is Kelly McCausey’s “The Power Of A Focused Business”, which deals directly with how to be less distracted and genuinely get more done.
These two resources and a whole, whole lot more can be yours for as little as a $25 donation.
See what’s coming (so far!) right here:

Got a calendar, mark it now. Don’t? Get one!

The tradition that began last year is back and getting bigger by the day.

From October 5 until October 12, your donation to Autism Speaks, the leading autism research organization in the world, will get you much, much more than a good feeling inside.
Product contributions include offerings by Kelly McCausey, Tiffany Dow, Chris Garrett, Lynn Terry, Alice Seba and more.
More are coming and I’m asking for others right up until 5 a.m. on Sunday, October 5 when the fundraiser kicks off.
Look for updates!

A while back I told about a friend who started The Ultimate Time Tested Work At Home Business.
He delivers newspapers.
“Oh boy,” you’re probably thinking, “What a great way to make money from home! Just like being a postal employee, except without the juicy salary and benefits!!”
He didn’t settle for just delivering them. He added something extra - something everyone with a list of people should have. Namely a newsletter.
It’s nothing impressive or lengthy. He grabs a couple of funny news stories online, pastes them into Word and prints. That’s it. He distributes them every Wednesday as a way for people to get over the mid-week hump with a smile or a chuckle.
There aren’t many people on his list, but his tips have increased 400% in less than six months. All he does is keep in touch. He does OK for the amount of hours and effort involved. For that matter, he does better than most others with bigger lists.
Are you keeping in touch?

There was some very shocking news on TV this morning.
After extensive and exhaustive study, a full report has been released that states that global warming is a man-made phenomenon…and irreversible to boot.
I don’t know how that could be, considering mankind has only been polluting the planet since the Industrial Revolution. How could a worldwide population approaching, what, 8 or 10 billion make such a mess in 150 years?
I blame the cows.
It’s that methane gas they…ummm…produce. After all, lately there’s been lots of talk about harnessing it as an alternative energy source. There’s gotta be an awful lot of it for anyone to consider that seriously.
All those acres they’re slashing and burning in the rainforest every minute of every day aren’t for new tennis courts. They’re being used for cattle grazing.
More cattle, more land. More gas, more pollution.
Let’s stop blaming poor innocent mankind for this catastrophe. The dinosaurs lasted for !50 million years for one reason…no cows.

Last week, a 16 year old boy stabbed another boy fatally at their high school in eastern Massachusetts. By itself, it’s not terribly memorable given the amount of vicious attacks in the greater Boston area.
So why do I care?
This 16 year old boy was described to be just like my younger son, who’s nine.
Both have Asperger’s syndrome, a form of autism. They have exhibited violent outbursts and difficulty with social situations. There’s more, but I feel as though I’ve been thinking about it more than long enough.
My son’s undergoing treatment with medications and therapy. He’s shown improvement in many areas, but he’s still who he is. He presents and acts in many ways as a typical kid and that’s where the worry comes in. The teenage years are full of plenty of raging hormones and simmering emotions. Will the day come when he has full self-control and can be everything we hope he will be?
Is there really anything we can do about it?
